I've just been to see Rodrigo y Gabriela play at the Enmore Theatre - a guitar duo from Mexico who play incredibly fast and rhythmic acoustic guitar. They create and sustain a level of energy that if harnessed could power the whole of Sydney - which is why I was really surprised to see from their web site that they are vegans.
So how the hell do they do it!? I've been as weak as a pea lately and a few days ago realised that my iron levels are getting low, so have been tucking into steaks and other iron-rich meat, and am beginning to feel much more energetic.
This is a statement from the duo:
Because land, water and other resources are limited, the world can support many more vegans than meat eaters. As a world wide demand for meat has grown, the net effect is that the worlds poor have become increasingly unable to afford food of any kind.
Did you know that 10 people would be fed with the grain that you would feed a cow?
Rod Gab
I've toyed with vegetarianism before but ended up anemic and have never tried veganism - the thought of life without eggs and cheese is just much to bear.
So how do you manage to keep up your energy when you're not eating animal products?

Thanks Simon - I will check those out.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to cut back meat now, rather than cut it out - but have resorted to iron & vit b supplements at the moment so I don't fall over!
Utter rubbish. The whole "but how do you get enough iron or protein" nonsense is pure excuse, because breaking your addiction to meat is too inconvenient.
ReplyDeleteI've been a vegan/vegetarian for all my adult life (I'm 30) and I have never had any problems attributable to stopping the consumption of meat.
Everything you need for nourishment can be found in plant based foods, water, and the air you breath. That's all you need.
I agree with anonymous. I have more energy since going from vegetarian to vegan.
